ON 15 May 2023, AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE TREASURES OF THE ROYAL UNITED SERVICE INSTITUTE –
The RUIS has an extensive library. What you may not be aware of is that they also have a large number of items that are of interest, as they are more readily recognisable as something that would have been day to day items in their time. While books are researched and written with many photos etc, they are always rather distant things. The items we intend to display bring those times much closer.
We will be showing about 100 of the many items we hold. These range from Melbourne Air Raid Precautions from 1942, a knitting booklet from 1940 with patterns for socks, scarfs, mittens etc for the troops, “Wartime growing of vegetables” pamphlet from the Victorian Dept of Agriculture, sheet music of the Classic Donald Duck song “In Der Fuehrer’s Face” as well as the Army Manual of Chiropody from 1931.
When: 15 MAY 2023. 10.30 am
Where: Robertson Room, Victoria Barracks, Southbank.
