ON SATURDAY afternoon on 13 JULY 2024, join us for an afternoon of illustrated talks with five special guests. The afternoon event starts at 12,45 and runs to 5pm. It includes an afternoon tea.
One of the talks is ‘The art of cooking, 1945-1985’. Discover the creative convergence of art and food through the decades, in Saskia Ericson’s collection of vintage illustrated cookbooks. Feast your eyes on instructional linework to childlike drawings, spot illustrations, graphic art, kitsch and counterculture.
Saskia Ericson is a graphic designer at the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. She is a long-time collector of vintage food-related ephemera including menus, novelty fake food, fruit crate labels, anthropomorphic veggie/fruit postcards and cookery leaflets. Saskia’s vintage illustrated cookbook collection has appeared in Frankie magazine, and is her pride and joy.
Saskia’s presentation is one of an afternoon of talks in ‘Travels in the lands of Ephemera’. Watch this space, or follow us on Facebook or Instagram, to meet our four other speakers.
