I am looking to contact a member of the ESA who holds a collection of vintage wedding cards and or telegrams, a selection of which he/she would be willing to loan Surrey Hills Historical Society for our forthcoming exhibition. The exhibition is on the theme of changing wedding traditions and is a joint exhibition being mounted by the Surrey Hills Historical Society and the Canterbury History Group.

Dates: Monday 28 September – Friday 9 October
Venue: Maling Heritage Centre, 190A Canterbury Road, Canterbury, Victoria 3126

Uneeda Biscuit Tin or Label

Hoping an ESA member or ephemera collector may be able to assist.  l am interested in obtaining a copy of a Swallow and Ariell’s biscuit tin label of Uneeda biscuits. A complete tin with original label would better, if possible, but not necessary.

The label l am searching for has Uneeda biscuits standing up with UNEEDA in each biscuit, with the words – “They stand alone” below. l think the label was blue in colour.

l am looking to fit a label to a tin, for display in the Old General Store at Coal Creek.

Black and White Minstrel Show display piece

I have been trying to find someone who may be able to provide some more information (and possibly point me in the right direction to get a valuation) on this display item.

It is a wood and plaster cast “poster” of the Black and White Minstrels. The picture is 60cm wide and 80cm to the tip of the arch. The back is signed by Wendy Hutton with the words “Toad Hall”.

The little information I have found to date seems to point to their performance at the Tivoli in Melbourne (1962) the same year they toured Australia and New Zealand? Any information anyone may be able to provide on this item is greatly appreciated.

Please Note: The Back and White Minstrel Show, which aired on the BBC from 1958 – 1978, is widely considered to be deeply racist and offensive today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_and_White_Minstrel_Show
