MANY FATHERS PROFESS TO NEEDING MORE SOCKS, ON BIRTHDAYS, AT CHRISTMAS AND ON FATHER’S DAY.
Bell’s Socks were happy to assist fathers to have happy days. Bell’s Socks for Men seem to have been in operation from about 1938 to 1953. The envelope below is simple and the emphasis is on the ‘fathers day’ message. The envelope above uses the term ‘Dad’ and also gives much more profile to the Bell’s brand.
This group below are about to present the very envelope we have here to Dad. Note the dog completing the happy home. This may be from the later years of operation, the early 1950s.
Fitwear provided the same envelopes for easy presentation – Dad is alone, except for the dog, and enjoying a pipe. He is wearing some very smart socks with his slippers. Bell’s envelopes on show did not take that next step of making a feature of the socks.
Our date estimate comes from a Trove search for Fitwear socks. We belatedly note that this packaging could be used on any occasion as the message is simply ‘best wishes to Dad’.
Thanks once again to Andrew for looking through his collection for a theme. It was much appreciated and we look forward to doing this with other members.
