FRUIT ANYONE? THE ESA HAS RECENTLY BEEN CONTACTED BY A PHD STUDENT WHO IS STUDYING TASMANIAN APPLE CRATE LABELS. She is from South America. We are delving into possibly deeper meaning including the ways that some labelling refers to Tasmania. This led Ana, the student, to mention how fruit can sometimes symbolise something prohibited. She wasn’t thinking Adam & Eve, rather the way Palestine’s flag is sometimes represented by a slice of watermelon. I followed up on this, maybe you know, but on some media platforms the Palestinian flag is banned. And so sometimes they use an image like this:
Interestingly the sticker may have been designed anywhere in the world for an English reading audience. The reference to following the laws of your region suggest to me that it is from further away than say Brisbane. Any ideas?
These and three other stickers were plastered in great numbers in Flinders St, Melbourne. This last Sunday, 3 December 2023 I saw that a larger size of the same designs were being stuck on walls and street poles in the Melbourne CBD presumably during the march. To date I haven’t felt there was so many pro Israel signs for me to secure any for my collection. The Israeli ones I have seen have been very effective A4 posters of the children, women and men taken as hostages.
